- 1 cup sushi rice (short-grain rice)
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- Gluten-free nori (seaweed sheets)
- Gluten-free tamari (instead of soy sauce)
- Fillings of your choice:
- Cucumber (thinly sliced)
- Avocado
- Cooked shrimp, salmon, or crab (check for gluten-free labels)
- Carrot sticks, bell pepper, tofu, or egg strips
👩🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cook the Rice
- Rinse sushi rice until water runs clear.
- Cook as per package instructions.
- Mix in vinegar, sugar, and salt while still warm. Let it cool completely.
2. Prepare the Fillings
- Wash and slice vegetables into thin strips.
- Cook or prepare any proteins and let them cool.
3. Set Up Your Rolling Station
- Place a bamboo sushi mat (or clean towel) on a flat surface.
- Lay a nori sheet shiny side down.
4. Assemble the Roll
- Wet your fingers and gently spread a thin layer of rice over ¾ of the nori.
- Lay fillings horizontally across the center of the rice.
- Roll tightly using the mat, pressing gently as you go.
- Seal the edge with a little water.
5. Slice & Serve
- Use a sharp, wet knife to slice into 6–8 pieces.
- Serve with gluten-free tamari, pickled ginger, and wasabi (ensure they are gluten-free).
